Be careful cutting and or grinding on the orbital too much. If it gets hot enough it can damage the seals and leak like a sponge. FYI.

Oh maybe I misunderstood, I thought you modified the orbital shaft as well as the steering shaft. My bad.

Is that ram going to work correctly having two different length ends? I am no expert in full hydro steering but I've never seen one set up with difft lengths.
Anyways looking good.

Greg G I'm no expert either, but I've had a couple different conversations where "it should be ok" was stated. We'll see what happens. Won't really know for sure till it's up and running, but I'm thinking (hoping) it'll be ok.

The ram is still going to move the same amount in both directions as long as the ram travel is centered when the wheels are straight. Mine is mounted all the way to the passenger side. Just don't forget to check your steering stops, don't want to over turn and take out a ujoint.

Just don't forget to check your steering stops, don't want to over turn and take out a ujoint. Weezie sent me a link to a JK build that's a couple years old, the guy mounted his double ended ram the same exact way I did. He never said if it didn't work, or if it did, so I guess he's good to go. He's also running the factory 44 with 40's on a stock length frame. They tore that dude a new one!!! When I mounted mine, I never even considered the different length links being an issue due to the same reasoning Jeff mentioned in his comment. But when it was questioned I started to worry about it. But after talking to several people now, and seeing that other build thread, I'm not worried about it. I did like how he beefed up the sides of his knuckles to help with the force of the ram, I might do that myself. It also gave me the design I needed for the ram. I talked to.....................Hockett yesterday and he brought up about reinforcing the mount also, boxing in the heim so it has a stronger mount. I like that idea too.

Charlie had to box his in even before hydro assist so it's probably a good idea.

Set the tie rods so that the ram stops right before you hit the steering stops and all will be fine. That's how mine is with the assist and it works great.

It won't be tonight. Are your steering stops adjustable?
