Ok so today has been a crappy day I got off work and ran by the ole miss center, after I did my running around I ran by the neighborhood market walmart. I walked in for 5 minutes and came out to leave. Got into jeep Go to crank it up and nothing Dash lights come on but jeep won't turn over Call my step dad and I called mike Mike came out and started to look at it, we pulled off the starter and carried it to autozone- tested good but seemed weak. Took battery off and carried it to autozone- tested 99%. Decided to try to replace the ignition switch and still nothing
Any other ideas why it won't turn over??
I do want to give a huge thanks to Mike Penny and Robert Mucho for coming out to help. I appreciate the help tremendously

Neutral safety switch. Yours is an auto right? Try starting it in neutral instead of park.

We tried switching a few of the main fuses but still had no effect. When you try to turn it over you can hear them but the starter won't even try to turn over.

Have you checked the wires going to the starter relay? We are having to replace the one on the YJ...sometimes I have no issues starting but occasionally the wires going to it will loosen up just enough to where it won't turn over. You'll hear it click too.

We changed the starter relay and checked all fuses and still the same. all the wiring seems tight. Anyone know where the neutral safety switch is on that automatic? Anyone ever had one go bad?

Did you turn the key to run then jump the starter from the battery? If it's still in the parking lot that'd at least get it home.

NSS is either on shifter under console, or some models have them on the shift linkage on the trans itself. It could have gotten loose and worked its way out of position. Hold your foot on brake and try to start it and shift thru all positions slowly and see if it tries to start in another spot.

I came across this for the neutral safety switch
Remove the transmission oil pan Remove valve body assembly from vehicle. Remove the manual shaft seal ( the seal on the shifter shaft) Remove manual shaft/Transmission Range Sensor retaining screw Slide Transmission Range Sensor off of manual valve shaft.

No we didnt do that But we winched it onto mikes trailer and trailered it home I actually did try that and it did nothing. For some reason there is no power getting to the starter. I also tried moving the shifter thru all gears and positions to see it if would start and still nothing. For about 4 hours we tried everything we and anyone else could suggest with no success. I finally went and got my trailer to haul it to his house. When we tried to pull it on the trailer with his winch we discovered that his winch goes out but won't go in. I think karma has struck him and I want to know where teach buried the body ![](//storage.proboards.com/3613987/images/BpaIyaAZycYl9y_eF_Sw.gif)
