Well, I got yet another toy.
It's a 1998 Kawasaki zx9r Ninja. 400lbs with a full tank, 143hp, bad to the bone awesomeness. She's got all stainless steel brake lines, full Muzzy exhaust, solid roller drive chain, 44 tooth rear sprocket, 15 tooth front, K & N air filter, kevlar brake pads, Iridium spark plugs, rear fender delete, adjustable dog legs for the rear suspension (that's how I'm able to touch the ground.
Since I've had her I've managed to do this........
Yupp, that's a broken starter gear. Little did I know that if these bikes have a low battery they get frustrated and let the motor kick back on this starter gear, causing the teeth to get chewed off. Looks like Jeeps aren't the only thing I can break easily.
I also rebuilt the front forks because the seals were shot and had been leaking for quiet some time.
You can see how bad the forks had been leaking by all the gunk built up on the outside of the front calipers. You'll also see the sludge that was in place of the fluid inside the calipers. They all got torn down, cleaned, and completely rebuilt. If you're not familiar with motorcycle calipers, the front ones are two piece and can be disassembled and serviced.
It took me almost 8 hours to rebuild everything and reinstall it on the bike. I rode with a buddy of mine that has a 1996 Triumph Trident 900 that he bought brand new in '99 and it's only got 4400 miles on it. It's lived inside all it's life and still has the factory original tires on it, it's a gorgeous bike. We ended up doing about 115 miles this morning. So, if anyone has a bike and wants to go riding just let me know!
