Had to come visit my page just to see where I left off on the car... I've been and I'm going to be working shit loads of overtime this summer, so I thought it'd be a good time to take a break while it's freak'n hot.
To be continued...
Mike, anytime you're in Tupelo or thinking about heading this way, give me a yell. We'll take a look at her. 662-322-6105

Been point'n and click'n at work about 60 plus hours a week for a couple months now, so I still haven't got any shop time in...
However, I have had the opportunity to run upon a decent deal on craigslist for some wheels and tires for the Camaro.
Custom billet 18x11's and 18x8's. They were made special for a guys 68' Camaro. Not exactly what I was looking for, but they were at the right price.
Sitting next to my 275 drag radials.
They'll fit perfect once I narrow the rear end.

Thanks, not what I would pick out new. But they suited my budget. I may paint them black or do a black chrome finish. Just depends on the color scheme I go with. Polished just isn't me... The great thing is, I can go ahead and build the 9" to the wheel and finish up the four link in the back.

So as I've been day dreaming down in this dungeon/basement the last couple months. I think I've come to a color scheme and drive train combo for the car. I saw a metallic charcoal grey on the new Vette's that I fell in love with. Or maybe it was the Vette I fell in love with? A metallic charcoal grey for the body and I'd like to do a black chrome on the wheels, trim, and bumpers. Drive train:I'd love a 6 speed, but they're expensive, 600 hp limit, not suited for drag racing, and I think it'd get tiresome when cruising long trips(can you tell I'm getting old?). Plus they don't suit the power adder I prefer. Engine - A disposable 5.3 truck engine with a good set of heads. Transmission - 4L80E with a transbrake. Differential - 9" plain and simple Rear suspension - 4 link with panhard bar. Power adder - After I get everything dialed in, suspension set up, and running. I'd like to build a twin set up. A pair of 64-67MM turbos would be a really fun build. Everything is better in pairs right? boobs, legs, turbos, etc...

The 5.3 would definitely be a good budget build and the stock bottoms have been known to hold a lot of power. The 4L80E is a great trans if you're going the auto route, I'd actually like to have one in my Camaro. The 9" will hold the power all day. And man I sure would love to see you put two turbos on there!
Paint scheme sounds cool too. Looking forward to it!

This all sounds like a great plan. The 5.3 is a solid platform to start with. Lots of aftermarket support and tons of different ways to go with it. A friend of mine just sold a car with a mostly stock 5.3 and a 72mm??? I think single turbo and it would run mid high 6's all day.
Be sure if you use a pull out 5.3 to go ahead and do the ARP rod and main bolts if nothing else. It'll keep the bottom end together for you and the short block will last a lot longer.
I like where this is going!

Been playing in the shop this week. A little on the warm side, but it's been great. Re-aligned the front subframe and I'm getting a lot better fender/door gaps. The sabbatical has done me some good.
One thing for sure... I could write a paragraph on what to do right, and book on what to do wrong...

Started with horrible gaps on the front cap, 1/2" or so. After getting frustrated, I decided to take a break this summer. The summer habitus has helped me a good bit. I've gained some patience and I think I've finally figured out some of the things that are causing my problems. The top of my firewall on the driver side is sitting forward about 1/4-3/16". This isn't allowing my driver fender to sit back far enough. I found some better points to hang plumb bobs, so I was able to square my front subframe better. I believe it to within an 1/8" or less. To counter the firewall being forward at the top too much, I moved the mounting bracket on the inner fender forward. My gaps at the bottom of the doors were a great deal larger and I still had the lazy eye problem. I also noticed a lot of stress on the fenders to keep them in position. I shaved .2" off the radiator bushings, and added .2" to the sub-frame bushings at the firewall. That fixed the gap variance and the droppy eye. I used global west 1/2" drop bushings, which cut the height down a 1/2". I couldn't cut the front down any more than the .2" or the radiator support would be almost on the frame. The bottom of the firewall was sitting on the frame. Here you can see the firewall sitting on the frame. Not sure if that is normal for 1/2" drop bushings or not. I tigged a couple washers together and sprayed them black. They'll make good spacers.

Here's one thing that bugs me. The fender isn't parallel to the rear valance or header panel. It's like the fenders angle out on both sides. But the fender line looks parallel to the hood. If I can't align them to suit me, I'll cut and adjust them later, in the mean time, I'll be thinking about it.
