I had a 65 step side I started to restore one time but moved and didn't have room for it any more so I sold it for a BIG loss...I'll be watching this!

The bed was mostly beyond repair because someone welded a plate in it and warped the sides bad, about the bottom 4" of the front bed panel was rusted away, tailgate was beat to death. The center bed supports and rear fenders are all that can be reused.

I ran into some things I couldn't explain that some one did to it, Why would someone braise the running board to the fender :doh:

Or weld some odd ball shaped steel plates to the bed sides :shrug:

Random bailing wire all over the place and some exhaust hangers where the exhaust didn't and never did run close to

FUN FACTS :

A lot of this stuff that was built back then is way different than how it's done now

The shocks look like the automatic door closers you see in commercial buildings

The rear axle has whats called a torque tube and the drive shaft it built in without u-joints on either end

The hole in the Harmonic balance is where the hand crank went and the angled groves kicked the handle out when the engine cranked

Or you could step on the small round pedal to the right of the accelerator

That thru a assembly of brackets, pushed a button on the starter

This is the crankcase ventilation, just a tube coming out of the block ( between the distributor and the fuel pump ) turned down toward the ground

The breather has what is called an " oil bath " filter system, it actually uses oil to filter the air.

It came complete with this very fancy heater

I finally got to order some parts

Rear cab corners, inner door frame surround and some misc bed parts.

And just got my floor boards a few days ago since the floors had been poorly patched

Looks like they are going to fit, I just need to find me a plasma to make it easier to cut the remainder out.

I also have already got a few misc. other parts, complete lock set, front and rear fender bolt kits, fender welting, etc.. and have a few more things coming

Nice to see a build like this. An old friend of mine had one that we put a Camaro sub frame under the front with a small block. it turned out to be a pretty nice truck but I sure do like the original resto's on these old rides.

Those pic of the bed does it NO justice, It makes NO sense why they welded that stuff like that... that bed is FUBR for sure. I still have a sandblaster here Mike if you wanna borrow it one weekend... or come by and sandblast some parts (I have 2 large compressors lol)
