I've got a friend that dropped his 900 rzr off with Shane and Kyle at Genesis off road last week...they are doing a complete custom overhaul on it. I guess I'm gonna start saving my pennies and hopefully I can drop mine off there at tax time for a cage, bumpers, and sliders. Gonna be a huge chunk of change and from what I'm hearing the stock cages leave a lot to be desired in any real rollovers so might as well make that my first real mod. Might try and do a few small projects between now and then but I think that's my first big goal.

I never have had any luck with Clyde...I think I've pissed him off somewhere along the lines. Shane puts out some pretty good work from what I've seen. If there is something I need to know pm me please.

Chris, if you plan to put this much money into a rig I'd seriously sit down and take a deep breath. You are about to dump a ton of money into an 800 that will be VERY nice but will be a little under powered if you put 30-31" mud tires and get into deep mud. I'm not sure what you paid for your 800 but your talking about a very expensive machine in the end. I know this sounds crazy but give or take $1,000-$1,500 you could buy a nice custom 900 for about the same money. You would have to sell yours but It sounds like you would get more for your money in the end. About all you would need is to find some take off rims with used mud tires on craigslist. I'm assuming you are a registered member of rzrforums and can see the link with pictures. For those who can't it is a custom Jagged-X race ready XP4 900 with low miles. Already has doors, sliders, race cage, racing seats, beadlocks, and much more. Also tuned up from 88hp to 94hp. The reason I know this.....There was no 900's when I bought and customized mine. At this point I am probable cose to the cost of this 900 in my 800. My suspension is a little better than the 900 but the 900 suspension is far better than the 800-S. Not trying to tell you what to do but just give it some thought and look at your total "potential" investment. www.rzrforums.net/polaris-rzrs-sale/113765-wts-13-jagged-x.html

I thought about all that but I don't plan on getting into anything too extreme with this...a clutch kit for now and see what happens. I see people going crazy with turbos and everything for the 800's but other than the rock bouncers everyone I know is happy with their 800's. Sure the extra power would be nice ...guess we will see.

The guy above is asking 19,500....I gave 12,500 for mine. Other than the extra horsepower there is a LOT I could do to mine and still come in with less money.

The guy above is asking 19,500....I gave 12,500 for mine. Other than the extra horsepower there is a LOT I could do to mine and still come in with less money. I understand but I was just thinking that a custom cage (most start around $2,000), custom sliders ($500) and custom bumpers ($500) you would already be over $15,500. Add a clutch kit and tuner (which usually require aftermarket exhaust to work right) and doors and your already at $17,000ish.....It just adds up quick once you start building one. I'm sure you will want doors at some point because of the mud which will be close to $1,000......$17,500....winch ($400)++......skids ($500)++.... Again, not trying to sway you but just wanted to throw it out there if you are serious about having "custom" work done at any point. I'd love for you to throw Shane some busines but would hate for you to look back at $20,000 and wish someone would have warned you. p.s. let me know if I stick my nose in too far....I love my RZR but if I started all over that Jagged X would be in my barn right now.

Nope, I appreciate the I site and information! This one is around to stay though...wife made me promise to keep it before sinking so much money into it...lol What are your thoughts on the cage? Super important, or just a small improvement? If I don't go full custom I would plan on at least chopping the top down and adding some reinforcements here and there. Rear bumper attached to the cage with a tire carrier might be nice also. And I already have doors...

I have also looked into the mass produced cages. This one is from UTV Giant. Powdercoated and shipped to my door with a roof, front and rear bumpers with tire carrier and 30" light bar would be around $2500. My doors would't fit so I would have to sell them to buy theirs...that would be a wash. I wonder what the price of a custom cage would end up running?

Only Shane would know that...or your friend who had one built. I know that Clyde's "start" at $2,000 and that is pretty basic.

What about the importance of a custom cage...I'm getting different opinions on it. Is it a must have or just nice to replace the ugly factory setup?
