I'm sure y'all know I finally broke down and bought a RZR after eyeballing them for a year or so now. Since I'm new to the whole scene I was hoping y'all with experience with them could teach me a few things!
I'm wanting to bring it to the runs and ride the rocks with y'all but I plan on being a regular in the local mud holes also so I'm wanting a dual purpose rig. I don't plan on doing 4's and 5's with it...but we will see...lol. my friends that play in the mud all run 3-5" lifts and 29.5 to 34" tires...doesn't sound very stable in the rocks. How much lift and what size tires are the rock buggies using?
I know since mine is a 4 seater ground clearance will be very important...I've already high centered every time I've had it out! Lol. Skids and rock spiders are high on my list because of the added length also.
I'm hoping Magnus will stick his head in here and beat me with some wisdom or tell me where to look...I've been cruising rzrforum.com...what are some other places to kill time?

He's at Disney this weekend, you might have to wait a couple of days.

If I'm not mistaken he's got a lift on his that has lomger control arms hence sticking the tires out more for more stability... I've rode with him a couple times and it's been a blast on the rocks every time!

Not sure... all I remember is it on the lift at Clyde's getting the new control arms put on.. I thought it had a little lift to it..

I will detail later but I have a long travel kit with fully adjustable coil-overs. I set my preload to give me 5" of lift. The bad thing about lifts is the higher you go the narrower you get and more of a bind on cv's. 3-4" inches with 28" tires would be a good balance. Get some 2" offset wheels or some spacers.

I've kind of been eyeballing a 2-3" lift and 30" tires. What tires do you suggest for the rocks? I know a lot of guys love the bighorns but they suck in the mud...might end up needing to get 2 sets, huh?

One BIG suggestion is take your time and watch rzrforums. I spent money on new stuff I could have picked up for like 40% off. There is a nice set of beadlocks and Pit Bull 27.5 (actually 28") tires. Also I've see some good deals on lifts and shocks. Be patient and wait. The stuff will come. I'd jump on the Pit Bull's. I bet you could get them for around $600. Do some research. I good set of fully adjustable coil overs like Elka Stage 3's will give you the option to lift the rig 3-4 inches for mud and drop for rocks if needed. You can buy a lot more and do much more if you buy used.

I already have the adjustable fox shocks...would coil overs be worth the investment? I could get 1.5-2" of lift just from adjusting what I have. I'm pretty sure its the "s" suspension under it and is 60" wide.
All purchases are on hold for a little bit, trying to play catch up from buying the thing and vacation...lol. Right now I'm more into research.

Right now I'm more into research. It ends up being a personal choice. Mine are fully adjustable and are dual rate. I can adjust preload, extension, rebound, compression and everything else. Takes some time getting used to it but I can make it as tall or short as I want. I'm pretty sure the shocks you have basically just have the little 4-5 setting adjuster which tightens your spring giving the lift. I can set my preload to give me my lift I want then adjust the high speed and low speed compression/rebound to give me lift but keep a good ride. I'm sure your stock shocks are nice but turned all the way up they will be very stiff and have little or no flex. If you could find some good Elka shocks that have all adjustments and are an inch or so longer than stock, you could adapt to anything. Again, personal choice. There are a lot of "stock" guy's on the rocks and they have a ton of fun. Your only limitations will be scraping your belly or "off-camber" stuff which can be minimized with UHMW full skids (do not use stock or any metal) and 1.5-2" wheel spacers.

I've been eyeballing the UHMW skids...where do you reccomend getting them from?
You are almost right on my shocks other than the adjustments, they are threaded and can be adjusted to any desired height with the turning of a spanner nut. That's all that is adjustable on them though and the higher you go the stiffer the ride. I can definitely see the benefits to what you have.

Mine are Trail Armor. They are out of MS. I'd shop around for the best deal and get 1/2 inch. They are bullet proof and won't hang on the rocks. www.trailarmor.com/ I actually called them and got them to put together a package deal for skids and rocker guards. Saved me around $80. This is a PRIORITY upgrade. Put them on your top 5 list.

Thanks so much for all the info! Hopefully some time while I'm home I can get a chance to check out your rzr and pick your brain in person!
