Well thanks to Ben I think I found my headlier installer.. He's done a lot of older hot rods and said its only $150 to install.. only problem is hes booked up for another 2 months.. but that can wait anyway.. I have plenty to do until then.. ;-)

Cleaned it up a bit.. Made a huge friggin mess more like it! Now I gotta try and get the flywheel off so I can mount it to the stand... Let's play find the starter and any bolt heads for that matter!! After some pressure washing and separating the two... Notice the flywheel has a spring disc on it.. The Roto Hydramatic tranny doesn't have a torque converter... it has a hydraulic type converter that shifts kinda hard,.. hence the springs to take some of the force.. Hopefully I can get this thing on a stand tomorrow night and start tearing into it to see how bad the damage is...

Thanks to Mike and his awesome tools and persistence.. We got it tore all the way down tonight..
What we started with...
Water pump off...
When we dropped the oil pan I got a total shock and awe!! This crap was half an inch thick in the bottom of it.. It's about the consistency of Play Doh... But didn't find any metal so that was reassuring.... Oil was as black as coal from being burned up by the blow by so bad...
From the looks of most of it it really wasn't that bad... pretty clean on the inside.. Not nearly as bad as Mike and I thought it was gonna be...
Word to the wise... Don't beat on a cast iron exhaust manifold with a BFH... It will break! Looks like headers may be a choice now...
Heads and valves looked pretty damn good too... No sign of any real bad burning of oil or anything... should be good with a little head work..
Cam looks decent... Gonna change it with a little hotter cam anyway...
Here is where it gets interesting... The bad blow by I had didn't just come from bad rings on a piston... it came from 4 bad pistons that were cracked and broke.. I am very surprised that it even held together and didn't just fall apart and cause any more damage!! No scoring of the cylinder walls.. Only thing we saw was the rod bearings were spun on a couple...
If you look real hard you can see all the way thru the top of the piston.. LOL
Crank looks ok to me too...
And this is what we finished with... a block, heads and a shelf full of parts! Time to get the machine work done now..

Wow the lifter valley is really clean considering all the sludge in the oil pan.
Start looking around at swap meets for parts. Go to super Chevy next month and walk thru. No telling what you'll find. There's all kinds of parts for sale at a swap meet.

I'm hoping to make the Super Chevy show again this year.. May be looking for some headers that will work..
