Looks just like my last Ford only mine had dual white whip antennas and a couple white razorback stickers in the back window! LOL That thing was a beast and would run off and leave most things at the line. The look on peoples faces when they got outran by a crew cab dually diesel was priceless! I sure do miss that truck but I was putting around 100k miles a year on them back then and I ended up trading it for a Dodge for better fuel mileage.

Man I went back and forth between the Dodge and Ford, it really came down to purchase price, size of the truck, and the options. So far I'm extremely happy with it. And it was time to get one.

I've had both and put MANY miles on both. For a weekend hauler, looking good running around town, comfort, and bad assedness the Ford wins. For hauling every day and high gas prices the Dodge wins. I would have done the same in your shoes!

WTH were you doing to put 100k miles a year on a vehicle? That's appr 2000 miles a week.
Just curious.

I had my own business buying and selling used 18 wheeler diesel engine parts...I would go around to the repair shops and salvage yards and buy whatever the rebuilders were looking for whether it be small pieces up to complete engines. I was living in Rogers Arkansas (Northwest Arkansas) at the time and driving to every state in the eastern half of the US...would leave out Sunday or Monday morning depending on how far I was traveling and would get back home some time between Thursday night and Saturday morning. It was common for me to drive through 4-8 states a week. I promise you can never beat me into owning my own business again! This is also why my work schedule now of 28 days on and 14 days off doesn't bother me as much as most....I'm home more now than I ever was working for myself. All those miles and fast food is also what I blame for being fat. LOL

So I found out yesterday that this truck takes 15.....yes I said FIFTEEN....quarts of oil. I went by a friends shop who specializes in Ford repair and he told me to definitely do the 5 or 15w40 full synthetic Rotella and replace 2 quarts of it with 2 quarts of Hot Shots diesel treatment. I drained 9 quarts of oil out of the motor, and the filter was nasty. So much for that oil change at the dealership the day before I picked it up. Anyway, 14 new quarts of fluid later (almost 1 full quart stays in the high pressure oil pump system) I feel alot better about driving it. It's running a little rough but that's because the Hot Shots is a cleaner/lubricator and I'm sure there's a few years of crud to clear out. The General Grabber AT2's are nice aggressive tread that fill up the wheel wells and makes the truck ride and look a ton better. Tightened up all of the tubing for the turbo system, every clamp was loose. Now I have to pull the radiator and either have it repaired or replace it, not sure how bad it's hurt but it's got a good leak going. Hell, I'll still be driving it to the Landers event anyway.

The oil is gonna turn black the same day you change it.. It's a diesel. So they may have changed it at the dealer.. and yes 15 friggin quarts! My oil change in Big Sexy was right at $100 doing it myself. Welcome to the diesel world...

My oil change in Big Sexy was right at $100 doing it myself. Welcome to the diesel world... I about fell out when he told me 15 quarts! I found the oil at TSC for $22.00 a gallon. I looked up Walmarts price and it was $19.57 a gallon. So I got it at TSC for the price match (plus a little extra off ) At least now I know that there is a fresh fully synthetic oil in it, which is from what I've been told the oil these engines really perform well on. Can't wait to see if that Hot Shots works, hope I don't have to buy any injectors.

Most of my diesel mechanic friends recommend me use the Motorcraft oil for the Ford HP oil system. They say it will take the lopey rough idle out. Something about the MC oil had a anti-foaming additive that Rotella doesn't and it keeps any small air bubbles out of the HP oil system. Take it for what it's worth. I've used it on all my trucks since new and have never turned a wrench in the two 7.3 trucks and only have "had" to replace three injectors in my 6.0. Another time I had a miss in the 6.0, mechanic friend told me I needed two injectors. Tore into it and all it was, the wire harness had came off the two.

Oh....and make it a habit to change the fuel filter when you change the oil. Both of them. The one in the frame is easy to do, just be sure to drain the cavity so you don't have it run up your armpit. The other is right next to the oil filter since your there anyway!! Clean fuel is the life of injectors in a diesel.

rhis is all new to me. I read a lot and took note of everyone saying Rotella, then my buddy who was lead mechanic at one of the local ford dealers for several years and branched out on his own and he said Rotella I was like shit...must be the stuff to use. So I figured I'd try it, this diesel thing is new to me and I was just going off what I've read and was told. But I might give the motorcraft stuff a shot next time. Thanks for the input, I really would've never thought about that oil

It's also high pressure and used to fire the injectors.. so keeping the oil good is a major priority! It will foam up if you use conventional oil.. Check this guy out.. He's a big time guru on the Ford's.. Anything you could ever want to know this guy can tell ya! www.youtube.com/channel/UCQz2vFEc1m-WGKf6g-pz9DApowerstrokehelp.com/
