Looks like I'm finally getting a trailer to haul The Thug on. This is the one I've been using, my father-in-law wants to trade me that trailer for my 5' x 10' utility trailer. Now I get to cut the rails off of the car hauler and set it up permanently for towing my rig. I'm kinda excited about this because I was gonna have to buy a trailer next year seein' how I've accidentally built a trail only rig No pics yet, but they'll make it soon.

I guess that means you won't need my trailer for the New Years run

If yours is available id like to use it, I won't be able to have this one ready by New Years. It'll be too wide for this trailer with the wheel spacers on it and we all know I've got a shit load of work to do on the jeep and not enough time. There's no way I can get the trailer ready too.

Not a problem. I should have it home long before New Years

If that trailer was originally built with those side rails then they are part of the structural integrity of it. Utility trailers use a smaller lower rail than a car trailer and use the upper rail to make up the difference.

Mine fits on a 82" wide trailer with about a 1/4" to spare on the front axle.

TJ width axles with 2" wheel spacers and 15x10 beadlocks that have 2.5" backspacing I believe. I've seen it on the trailer without the wheel spacers and it barely fits between the rails.

James, you sir are an asshat! I had no clue they were part of the structure, I honestly thought they were just there for keeping shit on the trailer. I'll get the spacers, and the trailer. I'll run the spacers at New Years with pulling it on Mikes trailer. If I don't like the spacers I'll just take them off and put em on a shelf and keep the trailer as is for now. I really don't wanna put money into a single hauler when we eventually want to be set up with a trailer for two and a truck to go with it.

So I've been thinking about this trailer and what I can do to accommodate my Jeep. I read some stuff on line about moving the axles forward to help with tongue weight and then I came across a thread on Pirate about adding 2' behind the axles instead. What do you guys think about that? I don't see where it'd be a problem seeing how there's so much trailer in front of the axles. Now this trailer is going to get new fenders and tires this year. I'll clean the rims and repaint them too. Just don't focus on how bad it looks, I'm wondering what you guys think about extending the deck. And don't bother with "just go buy a new trailer" because we're not buying one unless is 32' and has a gooseneck.

Add a 2' dove tail. Your welcome to use mine to get some measurements if you need to after the winter run.

It's totally doable, but it needs to be done right. I would also add a ramp carrier under it to help with balance, although you do want more weight in front of the axles than behind. Too much tail weight makes it pull squirrely.

You need a little more behind the axles for balance.
Thinks bout this...... If the Thug is to wide now with spacers and wheels, build a frame and ramps up even with the side rails and drive him up on them. Then use the lower deck for gear storage and such. Let the rear "ramps" start at the dove tail addition and let the Jeep ride nose up on the new frame. It'll only make it a foot higher so it sbouldnt effect COG. I've seen it done before and it works out nicely. Think of it how some people build ramps over there fenders for wide wheels on a car trailer. It would be like having a deck over trailer in front and a flat trailer in the rear.

It would be like having a deck over trailer in front and a flat trailer in the rear. After a couple of conversations I elected to not go with the wheel spacers. Too much strain on the D30 C's so I left it alone. But I do like the idea of the lower storage, that's pretty neat. I think the way this trailer sits now, 2' off the rear will do it some good. I've been sitting thinking about how I can make this trailer more Thug friendly and adding the length in the rear is it. I just have too much tongue weight with it, it was bad before but of course it's worse now. Just have to figure out how to do it, and properly like James said.

You need that tongue weight to keep the trailer from swaying. I would look into a weight distribution hitch before I messed with adding to the back of the trailer. It will level the truck out and make the trailer pull much better.
