I don't know if I want to step right into carrying all the time. Em and I have just talked about it a few times over the past few months. Having something for those just in case situations.
I have ZERO experience with guns of any kind. Never fired one and only held maybe 2 in my lifetime. I have nothing against them, just never had any interest. I would definitely need all the classes and instruction I could get.

I've been doing overnight calls down 3rd and Brooks for years and always had the nagging in the back of my head about what if... Now I'm in a city that I don't know doing the same calls in the same kind of areas at 3am... So I think now is the time to get some protection cause it only takes one time to change it all.. and since no permit is required makes it that much easier..

Range USA is the place to go for your classes. Very knowledgeable and personable people there. When you're ready I highly recommend them.

Ha bob. I know I don't carry much compared. I was talking to a cop today about his off duty carry and it was as much as his on duty stuff.
Everyone here knows I carry already anyway. It's no secret. Don't try to hide it

I like the "M-Factor" but is it worth the extra $ depends on the buyer. Just get your hands on some and try them out. You'll know when you find "the one". 9mm, 40, or 45.... They'll all do the job. I just like the 45; but if we start that age old argument we could be here awhile.

Reviews are great but like a cheap pair of Keds if it doesn't fit your hand it's not the one for you. Try shooting one and then try others before you make that decision.

I love my Theis holster! I've also heard good things about Remora holsters.

Ive only seen "belt" mentioned once on here so far. A comfortable carry all starts with the belt. Ever seen an officers duty belt up close? Its big, wide, and stiff. Its made that way to support all of the freaking equip we carry on a daily basis, and to carry it comfortably as possible. When it comes to holsters DO NOT GO CHEAP. Get a good belt. I have a Galco one that's 1 3/4 inches wide, the widest that jeans belt loops will hold, and its pretty stiff. IMO Galso has some of the finest leather products out there, and its American made. As for a holster, I have two that I use all the time. One is a black Galco yaki style, it has no strap/snap at all and its very small. There is a lot of the gun exposed with this style. I use it in the winter when I am wearing a jacket, coat, or two shirts. In the summer and when I am in uniform but in the office I use a black Blackhawk holster, see pictures. The Blackhawk is a good quality, well built extremely functional holster. It has a snap retention system and when you draw the release is positioned perfectly for you trigger finger to release and as you draw you trigger finger automatically goes straight to the trigger. Another big plus of the Blackhawk is its not expensive at all, under $40 on ebay. Like others have said about the gun, get what you are comfortable with. Renting, borrowing a bunch of guns is cheaper than buying another gun because you aren't happy with the first one. Like stated I love my Sig, its not cheap but it is a good combat gun. Also the sigs are tuneable to your hand. They offer different grips and trigger sizes. If you cant tell I am a big Sig fan. As for caliber, I like the 40. It has more knock down than a 9 but is faster than a 45. Its a good compromise round. Ive seen personally first hand what a Ranger SXT round from a Sig does to the human body and its nothing pretty. With all of this said, you can buy the most expensive gun, all the bling holsters and accessories but none of it is worth a damn if you don't practice with your equipment. I shoot a lot, but I almost always shoot with my duty gun and either my duty rig or one of my off duty holsters. Strictly so I will be comfortable with my equipment. Sorry this got so long but after 20 years in uniform I've tried a lot of things and just trying to save you some money. Hope this helps Greg G ![](http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd94/mpdxtreme/5716C55B-27F2-4D51-A376-253AB740E919.jpg) ![](http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd94/mpdxtreme/1BC431C6-3A77-4133-A04B-05F3046F87E1.jpg)

Charlie,
I've got an S&W shield 9mm that I bought for Natalie last yr. It's been to the range once, and that's it. Otherwise it's been sitting in the safe.
Natalie doesn't like it and I'm not a big fan of it either.
I'll sell it to ya if you plan on coming back in town anytime soon.

I like my XDm better but.... It's hard to deny a shield or glock
