Ive welded with hobart, miller, and lincoln welders. I own a 120v hobart and a 240v lincoln. I like the lincoln welders better than the others. Not really sure why. I would consider the lincoln 180 too, and as far as working on jeeps the mig will be an all around better welder over the tig.

I have a Hobart 210.. It's a 220V with gas.. Works on anything from thin sheet metal to thick stuff.. Used it to build the Ghoulie and to sheet Mike's truck... all around awesome welder!

I started with a Hobart 125 and upgraded to a Hobart 175 3-4 years ago. Hobart is all Ive ever really used as far as MIG welding, so Im kind of partial to them. Never had any problems with either machine.
Weezie, you have my old welder. Do them yourself!!

thanks for all the input guys. im still checking out a few but it looks like either the hobart 190 or lincoln 180 will both suit my needs. they are both basically the same price, so I might just flip a coin

Of course Lincoln has been around since welders were invented I think soo...

Well that helped LOL
I've been researching the two and like I said, they are pretty much the same machine, just different brands and colors. Hobart does weld a hair thicker on a single pass than the Lincoln. Like 2/16s thicker. Which really is no biggie. I've been partial to Hobart seeing as its what I first welded with but lincoln is good too.
Oh did I forget to mention I threw in the millermatic as a ringer too LOL

Having both brands of welder your considering I don't think you see much difference in welding with the two as long as you run good wire. I really like the Lincoln L56. Not sure about hobart- miller, but Lincoln does offer a beginner sized spool gun for about $200 if you ever wanted to weld aluminum

Is the Hobart a tapped voltage machine? Are you looking at the Lincoln 180t or c. The home depot and Lowes versions are tapped machines where most welding supply stores sell continuous voltage machines. If you buy a tapped machine you can print a Lowes 10% off coupon off the internet (that lowes will not accept) and take it to home depot and they will accept it.

I have a Hobart 110v 135a mig that I bought in a pawn shop 13 years ago. I couldn't tell you how many rolls of wire have gone through this machine. Never had a minutes trouble out of it.
