The bolt kit is nice. Especially with all the detail you've put in, you wouldn't want to have mis martched bolts holding stuff together. I've heard a lot of people swear by them. Half of mine are already mis-matched, missing, or rusted out.

One thing I've always hated about these cars is the location of the windshield wiper motor. Not so much b/c I want a clean look, but because the damn thing is the way.
Pulling valve covers, there it is... Try to put tall valve covers on and it's in the way. Pulling engines, it's in the way. I just don't like it there. I thinking about relocating it to the fender area like this cat did... What you guys think? It'll be under the fender which would make it a bitch to change out if needed. But it'll be out of the way.

I can see that being a pain to change out but honestly I've never had one go out on anything. It would be nice to have it out of the way.

I'd rather have the engine easier to work on. Move it!!!!

Finished up the tunnel this weekend. Not the cleanest install, but it's just the floor board right?
You can see how much I raised it...
It was a pretty day so I took the car out for a spin.
I think I have the jig sold, so I need to get the car off and on all four. I plan to finish cleaning, priming, and painting the underside before I slide the front clip under it.
Time for the redneck rotisserie.
Cleaning the underside of the tunnel fab.
Enjoying the evening...
Turned out pretty nice.

Sold the jig to a guy in Pontotoc for the $ I had in it... I had $120 just in the freak'n casters. I figured the cost of building a rotisserie. It was around $600 for the metal, casters, and hydraulic rams. And about a day to put it together. But I don't think I'll go that route, I don't really think I need one for a driver. Once my back starts acking from being bent over block sanding, I may feel different about it. I'm waiting on some parts to come in to mount the rear end and then I'm going to line up the front clip. Once lined up, I'll fab up some sub-frame connectors. -In the mean time- In the process of slicking the firewall a touch. I'm not going to smooth it out totally, just some of the crinkles and spot welds. I like the looks of totally smooth firewall, I just don't want that much thick bondo on my car. I need to fill in some of the holes that I won't be using. It should help keep out the excess noise, water, and heat out of the cab. Cut out a circle with some tin snips and has a magnet on the backside to hold it in place. Cleaned up and ready for a light coat of plastic.

I guess you do know that small holes you can get to from the backside you can use a piece of copper and hold over the back of the hole and weld it up. Then just grind smooth and use scratch putty instead of regular filler to smooth out.

Then just grind smooth and use scratch putty instead of regular filler to smooth out. Yeah, copper backing comes in handy for the larger holes, but I couldn't reach around the back side of the fire wall... I temporarily lined up and mounted the front sub-frame. I plan to fab some sub-frame connectors, so I wanted to mark where the sub-frame stopped on the floor board. The style connectors that I'm going to build is going through the floor board. I just don't like the ones that hang low. For shits and giggles and mounted the front fenders... This is a good angle, with the fender all the way back, there's still a 1/2" gap all the way down driver side fender. Made me sick to my stomach. The passenger side was a lot better. I'll worry about it after I finish messing with the floor board, but I'm not looking forward to making that mess work. Sold my jig to a guy one town over in Pontotoc. I could tell he was excited to get started. So I made a quick support out of scraps to hold the front up while I'm finishing the floor pan area. Going to fab up the sub-frame connectors prime and paint the floor. I plan to use black omni epoxy primer with some SEM trim black paint. I'm sure there's more durable paint, but SEM Trim black is also available in a rattle can. I like the fact that I can use a rattle can later to touch up any modifications. I thought about doing something like raptor/bed liner for the bottom of the floor board, but call me weird, I don't want a textured floorboard on the bottom side.

I'm going with a DSE style subframe connector. They're about $200 plus shipping. It'd be worth the $ if I was paying somebody by the hour to fab some. But I'm just hanging at the shop and drinking beer, so I decided to take a stab at fabbing pair. I bought a 20' stick of 3"x2"x.125" rectangle tubing for $64. It takes about 6', so I should have about 14' extra forother projects. While the sub-framewas under the car, I marked the position so I could line up thesub-frame connectors. A view from the bottom side. The hole cut out... A view from the top side. Narrowed the back end to mate with the rear subframe. Thesnake mouth... It fits very snug, I was for sure that I'd mess up several before I got it right. But I took my time and got it right on the first connector. This profilewill make more sense later when I post a picture of the connector mocked in place. Made the bend to follow the contour of the floor board. Copied the pattern for the passenger side.

Just dicked around this evening. I moved my tig welder back to the shop. I intended on practicing at the house but never did. Started playing with my welding table and making a light fixture to help me see what I'm welding... Was going to do some tig'n, but I was out of gas, go figure.
Finished fitting my subframe-connectors...
Here's a shot of the subframe connectors coming through the floor board.
Here's a shot of the snake's mouth matching the contour of the top side of the floor board where the rear subframe mounts to.
A shot of the underside towards the back where it ties into the rear subframe.
The front sub-framewill mate up to the front sub-frame connectors. I'm going to eventually make it where the front clip bolts to the sub-frame connector. I've been wanting to design a C-6 vette suspension in cad and build it to fit the car. Just a pipe dream, but that'll in the distant future plans, so I want to be able to move the front clip when time comes.
Here's the reason I haven't welded in the front seat mounts. I just need to notch the seat mounts and weld them in place.

Man that thing is really coming along. You'll be glad you did all this extra work while the car was torn down. Nice work man!

thanks guys... It's been a fun project. The plasma took out on me a couple weeks ago. NextAir shipped it to Memphica to be repaired and found out the board needs to be replaced. They quoted me just under the same price I paid for the plasma cutter to fix it... urrhhh!!! 3 year warranty, unfortunately it's a 4 year old product. Apparently they've gone up a couple hundred since I bought it. Rant exhausted...
