ok jeep guru's if I bought a 2 wheel drive cherokee and put one tons under it can I mount a transfer case to the existing transmission or will it have to be changed out

the tail shaft is different on 4wd vs 2wd models (in most makes), meaning you'd need the transmission and t/case I believe Jeep does it this way also...

I new the tail shaft wouldnt work but I was wondering if u could change the tail shafts

Aldridge has actually done this to an XJ.. he would know exactly what would need to be done..

Simple way get trans and transfer case as a unit. Other wise you'll have to tare down trans and change output shaft and that's if the rear of the trans case will bolt to the front of the transfer case housing. Is it standard or auto? It's not a straight forward thing but in most cases it can be done.
