Well I was having the same problem as Teach with his jeep vibrating on the highway. I took out my front drive shaft like he did and the vibration went away. How do I go about figuring out if it is the driveshaft or the U-joints that is the problem?

Best thing to do is jack up the front end, put jack stands under it for safety. Have a friend, wife, girlfriend, pool boy, etc put their hands on whichever tire you want to start at. Have them rotate the tire back and forth if you see slack in the u joint the. Badda-bing-bad da-boom. I would also check the front yoke of the tcase. Could be a bearing there also.
Good luck.

Are the u-joints loose? The joint should not move in the caps at all, of they do they they will cause vibrations and are bad and should be replaced

well i shook it all over the place and there was zero movement on the u-joints, just the driveshaft itself wiggled. But I know the front on these are supposed to wiggle some.
I didn't try to jack up the truck and turn the tires though. Would shaking the shit out of it do the same thing? lol

Rotational movement is where they will show up. If it was on the ground only thing that will show is if your wheel bearings are tight as well as TREs.

The slip yoke built into a XJ drive shaft will wear out over time. If its a high frequency buzz while at highway speed, your best bet is to go to the JY and get a new drive shaft. That's what I did and it got rid of my vibe completely.

All of the above! Another thing is the centering joint on the double cardon... they tend to go bad as well.. Ujoints aren;t that expensive so changing all of them isn;t a bad idea if they are the stock ones.. Or go to PAP and grab another one and see if it helps.. cheap there too.. if it doesn;t work then you have a spare!

is the slip yoke the thing in the diff, or the transfer case?
