As most of you know I swapped out my stock D35 rear axle for the Ford 8.8. When I did the swap I wasn't real happy about where I had to put the shock mounts (lower than the axle housing) but didn't really know at the time what to do. Well, a couple weeks ago at Hawk Pride I tore off the driver side mount and destroyed my shock. So I decided I'd move the lower mounts but once again wasn't really sure what to do with them. I then decided to copy what Rook did on his TJ and mount them on the outside of the frame rails. I spoke with Jeffrey Lane and we set up a time to bend up some hoops but then Greg (Atver300) informed me about the Ford F250 shock mounts (Ford Part# E5TZ-18183-A).
I figured out where and how to mount them, did a little mock up with the new shock and the broken lower mount. The axle mount will be on top of the axle tube just above the brake caliper, facing towards the rear of the Jeep. It'll give me about 1/2" clearance between the shock and frame and about 1-1/2" to 2" of clearance between the shock and the tire. Might end up being more if I have to notch the frame for the mount which I don't think I'll have to do.
The mounts are on their way, hope to have them by the end of the week. Once I start the mod I'll take pics and document everything. Just giving everyone a heads up on the next wave of mods to the Ghost. (Will also be installing boomerang style shackles on all 4 corners)

Did you check for clearance at full flex. Unless you have really offset wheels I'm pretty sure you will have to notch the frame to recess the mount into it for the shock to clear the tire at full flex.

This even with my Coilovers sitting almost entirely inside the frame rail I still rub the springs at full flex with a 3 1/2" offset and 2" spacers on my current wheels.

You will have to notch the frame cause your tires will rub if they are even close to stock width..

those shock towers are great. I'm running them on the front of mine, for $13 a piece it's hard to complain to.
what's the deal with outboarding tho? Just to have the longer shock with better ground clearance? or is it more?

So same length shock with nothing hanging under the axle. Gotcha. Good stuff.
