Especially the transmission? I've got a friend who needs to get a jailer for a food trailer (daily pulling ~18k #s) . He's a Chevy guy but has heard bad things about transmissions in them. So much so that he's looking at Fords.

Yes very good luck. I'm not hard on it all the time but it has held up to me for over 4 years now. You'll have good and bad in all. Fords are bad about poping head gaskets and oil coolers so it will depend on what he want a to repair down the road. $6-8k for H/G's and cooler or $2-3K on a trans rebuild.
But I love my truck. Will never go back to gas unless I have to.

I normally have enough cans in my shop for several truck bodies, wounder if I supply my own cans I could get a discount Greg G

I have 2 Dmaxes. One with 333.000 mi the other 201,000. Love them. I pull heavy loads often. Tranny holds together really well as long as you don't go crazy with the tuner boxes. But when you do they make better parts. My high mileage Dmax had 240,000 on it's built trans before it died. And if I didn't mention it it has over 600 rwhp. Id say they do fine.

From my understanding a lot of diesel heads use the Allison tranny's along with the Cummins engines and the Ford bodies to build the ultimate truck!
Have a friend with an Allison that has been built for competition pulling... he loves it!

Got me a tow rig now. Don't have a trailer but at least this is a start 2000 w/151K. Truck sat unused for 6 years under a pecan tree in Lagrange. Put new spark plugs in it and a new fuel pump and a new battery along with fresh gas. Fired right up and runs like a damn sewing machine. P.O., my roommates dad, put Bosch plugs in it and it ran like ass, these modular motors don't like a non Motorcraft plug from my research. He parked it and left it. It still needs a front alignment and the A/C has a bad leak. Other than that it is good to go and go it will when you step on the loud pedal.
