I have heard that the Rotella oil is a great oil for the 4.0l. I have been using castrol syn blend and I notice a tap during start up so I was thinking of trying a new oil. I figured others would have opinions.. I would go with 10w-30
Its either rotella or Kendall

I have heard nothing but good things about rotella. I personally have never used it tho. I have always stuck with what my grandfather used ( Havoline ) in every thing he owned and his stuff always lasted forever.

There's two oils I stay away from because of bad experiences. One being Castrol and the other is Valvoline. I am now using a fully synthetic oil in my 4.2 because it's brand new. I have always been extremely satisfied with Mobil-1. The oil I am using right now is.........cough cough.....The Zone's fully synthetic 5-30. It was 12.99 for 5 qts plus the filter so that's why I got it. But after this it will be fully syn Mobil-1.

AMSOIL! In everything that takes fluid Period. In everything I own. Sold my wife's suburban a few months back with 289,000 mi engine and tranny. My tow trucks have 324,000 and 189,000. My last pickup had 196,000 when I sold it. My truck before that is still being driven by a friend with over400,000 it's a gas burner too.
Man I hate oil threads. This is gonna go crazy very fast.

You don't want to use diesel oils in a gas motor. They have lots of additives for cleaning diesel soot and diesels compression is worlds apart from a gas motor.
Use a good quality oil made for your motor and be done. If its making noises then changing oil brands may make it sound better but it doesn't fix anything. If there is an internal problem then figure out what it is and get it fixed before something goes boom.

I wouldn't buy a synthetic blend oil in any brand. Its like buying mid grade gas, its a scam. Regular rotella is fine in the 4.0 plenty of info about it online. I run it in all my stuff.

Read the back of the jug, it's rated for gas burners to. I agree. Use a quality oil. Rotella is a quality oil. I've seen a Chevy 350 with 500k and used rotella since first oil change... No major work. Still runs today.

I had always been advised by mechanics not to use diesel oil in gas burners and gas oil in diesels. But it sounds like you guys have had great luck with it so why fix what ain't broke.

Don't know about the 4.0, but I used regular 15-40 Rotella-T in my Z71 from day one. I just sold the truck the other day with just over 300K miles. Never a problem out of long block. Had the truck for 14 years, hardest vehicle I ever had to part with.

I run Castrol Syntec 10w30 in my TJ, along with 1 qt of Lucas. It's got a lil over 150K on it and runs fine.
In my work truck, a 01 Chevy with 5.3 Vortec, I run Mobil Clean 5000 (I think it's just called Mobil 5000 now), and a qt of Lucas in it too. 367,000 miles on it. No major engine repairs except for a head gasket around 250K miles.
Also run the Mobil 5000 in our 2011 Yukon, but haven't started usin Lucas in it yet. I will when it ticks over to 75K though.
