So our daughter is 6, and since i don't know a whole lot about princesses, and the other things she is into, I decided I would start a project with her to spend a little time with her and maybe we can learn a little something together. We are going to build an off road go kart together. It will be kept pretty simple, nothing over the top. No street bike engines or anything. It will be a 2 seater, so I can ride with her. The motor came in Friday. We unboxed it this evening. 7hp 212cc 4 stroke predator engine from harbor freight. Used the 25% Easter coupon on it. We started taking it apart this evening. Here is our daughter Rylee working on her first engine. Got all the "attachments" off of it. carb, head, cam, rod, piston, pushrods, removed. We are going to keep this a pretty mild build, just trying to open up some of it's potential so it can carry both of us around. So far, here are the parts i have on order. billet connecting rod , Thinner head gasket to bump up compression, .265 cam, and 18 lb valve springs to control valve float at the higher rpms (setting it up for 6500rpms). The carburetor will be changed out for probably a 13hp honda unit. It will get a billet flywheel, because i would rather not have pieces of exploded flywheel in my daughters head. Header and air intake will pretty much complete the engine build.

Just something I've been thinking about doing for the last cpl of years. Now that she is old enough to help some, just figured it was time. We are mainly just figuring it out as we go and learning something new.

Sounds similar to what guys do for racing carts or Jr. dragsters. It something to see a 9yo in a Jr. dragster outrun a race car on a 6.90 ( 1/8 mile )index. Makes a grown man cry.

Ordered a gs360 (honda 13hp) carburetor for it last night. Billet rod and camshaft are on back order, and should ship sometime next week.

This reminds me of those "lumberjacks" that put snowmobile engines on chainsaws!

The project has taken a bit of a turn. We just got back from picking this up: Been setting up for a cpl years, and needs some work, but couldn't beat it for the price I paid. 250cc mini dune buggy. This put me way ahead on the project. Since I've already bought a cpl hudred in parts for the other motor, I'll build that on a street cart (since I can build a frame up without supesnion pretty inexpensive)

Nice.... looks like shes already happy One of the first things she said to me today after school was "Momma, can we work on my go kart when we get home?"....while we were being rained on. She's super excited about this.
