While trying to remove the broken air inlet, allot of small pieces broke off and fell inside. Not a huge panic because there is a "shelf" or guard inside the top of the valve cover the keeps crap from falling directly on the valves and oil from spraying directly up through those holes. So... Had to pull the valve cover back off to clean all the little pieces out. Broke during the initial gasket replacement. The remainder was so brittle it could not be removed intact- it came out in literally dozens of small pieces The new one. Also bought new fixed orifice valve. Figured since I had to replace this, might as well get that one too. The fixed orifice valve did the same thing; i.e.- came out in allot of little pieces. Got the largest single piece out this way- locking pliers on the vertical body of the valve, BFP laid out as a fulcrum, pry bar under the edge of the pliers. These are the largest pieces of the fixed orifice valve Pulled the valve cover (now that I know how to do it) - flushed the shield area out, ripped out the old grommets and replaced them with new ones Pre-installed both new plastic parts into the new grommets while the cover was out. Glad I did- easier that way Everything re-installed and reconnected. Let the XJ run until it reached operating temperature, then ran it a little while longer to check for leaks. So far- none.

Good to see you were paying attention and glad you got it fixed. I told you... epoxy would have been easier

Thanks guys. I read some more about it and added that to the practical instruction gained Thursday night and was able to do it with my wife's help. Oddly- getting the VC out was the hardest part. Once that was taken care of, the rest of it went very smoothly. I didn't have time to do step by step with photos, but hope this helps anyone else who hasn't done this before.

I love your XJ. My headliner is doing the same thing. I didn't realize it was that easy to redo. I'll have to do mine here soon.

Thanks Be cautious when removing the trim panels- the clips on mine are metal and were glued to the plastic trim. Several broke free (glue failure). We used a pretty stiff bristle brush to remove the old foam backing from the header panel once we removed it. You have to get all of it off or the new headliner won't stick in that spot for more than a week or two.

Lost one of the horns on the XJ when I was driving around in the flood water. It was actually pretty deep in one area, and I guess water got pushed up into the horn, or got into the wiring at the plug.
The other one barely worked for a few days but is fine now. Sounds funny with only one horn. Wondering if it's worth the time and trouble to grab replacements from PAP or just spring for new ones at a parts store.
Suggestions? (that dont involve installing an air compressor and train horns... which I want but can't afford right now - LOL)

I'd just get used. Take a small battery in with you, 12 volt drill battery, and you can test them on the lot.
