Tied up a few loose ends and went for a test drive. Apparently I didn't tighten the outlet pipe from the turbo enough. Blew it off and had a mini heart attack when it came loose!! Huge thank you to Gregr for all his help with this repair! Saved me a ton of money and we are pretty sure we earned our master diesel tech certification on this project!

Nothing yet but there's a good possibility I'm gonna start removing stuff for the engine removal from Thor this weekend.

When you pull the HPOP check to see if it has an updated STC fitting. If not, go ahead and replace it. It's cheap and will save you from what I just went through.

Picked this up last week. '11 Chevy 3500 SRW LTZ Duramax. ![](http://i835.photobucket.com/albums/zz273/06blackmax/New%20Truck/95324039-2B4E-4D99-8C08-955413025FF8.jpg) It's not black but it'll do. I told Cam I'd have to change my screen name on almost every forum I'm on now. Ha!

Congrats!
Did they ever find any trace of your old truck?

No, they said if anything was ever found it would maybe be a cab and frame if that much. I got within a couple thousand of what I paid for it 6yrs ago since HD trucks seem to hold if not appreciate in value.
So far l like this truck. It's all stock with 56k miles. LTZ loaded with everything but sunroof. Has factory nav, Bluetooth stereo. Adjustable foot controls. Factory trailer brake controls with engine braking that I'm dying to try out.

I dropped the transmission on my f250 today, and just as I had suspected, the flexplate was cracked all the way around. ![](http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l304/madcountymusic/20160219_154956_zps8ilt8afi.jpg) And with a tap of the hammer ![](http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l304/madcountymusic/20160219_155028_zpsz2kdt67v.jpg)

That's more common than you think. I've seen it a lot on the forklifts I work on.

I've seen it happen a lot on hotrods. It can sometimes fool you and sound like the engine is knocking

That's what I've had happen. Bring a lift in for a supposed rod knocking and the flex plate fall out of it. It's even worse with a flywheel drive plate setup. The plate is sandwiched between the flywheel and the torque converter. Nissan are bad about it.
Glad your problem is an easy fix Jeff.

Yeah, it took me a minute to diagnose it with the loud 7.3. Started off sounding like a slight rod knock and got worse. I wouldn't say it was an easy fix without a lift, but it was the least expensive thing that it could have been. Got it all buttoned back up around 5 yesterday, and it is much quieter to drive now.

Once you know it happens you can usually tell a broken flex plate from a rod because the sound of a knocking rod always increases and decreases with the RPM of the engine, a flex plate is sometimes intermittent or the same sound thru all RPM ranges.
