My brother's Jeep is throwing P1776: Solenoid switch valve latched in the LR position.

When it downshifts I can feel a clunk but otherwise it is driving fine and shifts all the way to OD and allows the Jeep to go faster than 40. Anyone else had this code come up? Last time it popped up for him he said it stuck in 2nd and limited him to 40 mph. I cleared it hoping for s fluke but it came back after a couple of weeks.

Anyone got any suggestions? His Jeep is completely stock.

Never dealt with autos but I know solenoids and they do stick when they get old.. Shouldn't be that bad if it's external..

Almost positive you have to drop it. I'll be back at work tomorrow if you wanna remind me to check it out .

I read online a bad battery could cause it to act up. He ran it to Autozone and had the battery tested and it tested bad. He put in a Duralast Gold and I cleared the code. Fingers crossed that is all it was.
