Well since I'm not wheeling or climbing for a bit, I figured it's time to start my ar build. I know several guys here have built theirs from a parts list and so would I. My first question is where to start.? Any good brands or any to stay away from? I'm not buying it all at once but maybe a few pieces to get me started.

I knew both had done it but I haven't dug up their threads yet (I assumed they'd chime in). I know Ben went local for his lower and I'd like to support local if possible as well. I guess I need to continue digging around the net for the info I want.. Might post to WTO but I don't want my business completely out there on shitbook  |

Lower came from Patriot Defense off Covington Pike in Memphis. HIGHLY recommend S&S shooting in Walls for parts; mainly the M16 bolt carrier group. Idk what the Arkansas laws are for the lower (which is the "firearm") I found my upper cheap as a blemish (still ain't found the blemish) from Palamentto State Armory. It's a budget build but it's fun. Upgrades to come but for now it's fine. Only issue I've had was when using cheap mags  |

Aero precision upper and lower Del ton lower parts kit BCM charging handle Magpul stock PSA bolt carrier group and forward assist Strike industries dust cover    I keep going back and forth on a 16" 5.56 or a 9" 300 black build. If I did the 300 I'll do an ar pistol and then apply for the sbr and silence it. Decisions decisions! |

I really liked my rainier arms ambidextrous charging handle when I built mine a few years ago. Been through a few AR's since then.

Chris, didn't you buy some parts in those stores in Marion?

Yeah, grabbed my lower from kings custom coatings in Marion....there on 77 by Marion first church. They are the ones that do the ceracoating hydro dipping.
