Question for you boys and girls... I've been planning on getting new 35 mud tires and have the opportunity to upgrade to 37's instead. What are the reasons to not go with 37's and what components should be upgraded.
I own a 2013 Rubicon 2 door 6 speed that currently has 35" shoes on it and heavily upgraded suspension components (front and back). Aftermarket drive shaft. Stock axles, stock ring/pinion, stock e-lockers. Plenty of lift.
I know it'll look better and give me 1" extra clearance.
Obviously, it is impacts braking, it wears parts faster, adds more torque to drive components. I like to crawl over big rocks, but I don't wheel hard. In other words, I'm not spinning my wheels and bouncing the jeep.
I do have a Moab trip scheduled for summer time. I want to know what really needs to be upgraded before that trip, or if the jeep with stock axles and stock ring/pinion and stock lockers, is strong enough to endure.
- How will stock axles do? Will I snap them right off? - I'm not sure how the gear ratio will affect me. Maybe I'll be happy, maybe I'll want to change gearing from my stock 4.10. I am quite happy with the 4.10 gearing with current 35" tire setup. - If I have to change out ring/pinion and do axles, then I might as well go to better lockers. I really don't want that expense at this time. - BTW, how strong are the stock lockers?
Opinions please.
Thanks all.

Having 44s front and back will help a lot. Ive seen you drive and ridden in the back of your jeep. You would likely be fine on 37s.
Obvious upgrades would be c gussets and axle shafts. The rubicon lockers are not the strongest but, again, you are very easy on your jeep.
You wheel enough and eventually you will break something, but for this, spare shafts or chromos should keep you moving.

Guessets and sleeves and you should be fine. Just upgrade as anything breaks; that's kinda the name of our game anyway.

What they said.. and what you already have figured out.. I would go ahead and regear tho.. 4:10's sounds pretty high for 37's even with a 6 speed. Oh.. and armor armor armor.. even crawling your going to come across bumps and scrapes.. When are you planning to go to Moab exactly??

Kevin Brasfield runs 37s on his 2 door rubi with no issues. He is running stock gears and lockers as well. He has wheeled that jeep all over. It is extremely capable.

Wasn't he already on 36" swampers anyway? Yep. He got rid of them because he wanted to drive it more on the street.

Guys,
Thanks for all the input. Sleeve and gussets and axles it is. That was on the todo list, and I suppose will get bumped to the front of the list. I've only heard of people sleeving the front axle. Do people sleeve the rear as well?
As for Moab, there are currently 4 of us. Most of us have been hitting the ORV parks for the last year (including SMORR). My greatest trail at SMORR was Cheap Trick. Three are in JK's. The 4th member grew up in Utah and has a lot of Utah offroading experience. He's in a capable Cherokee.
The timing is sometime this summer/fall. It's looking like June. We all meet as a group to try to put dates on the calendar.
Chris had expressed a little interest in joining. Chris and others are very welcome to join.
Thanks again guys. Josh

JKs only need the front sleeved. The rear 44 is fine.

I run 37's on my 2door. Have yet to take it to a park but I have taken it to the bottoms. No issues.
