Working on a '00 TJ with an auto trans and I can't get the gasket to stop leaking. First gasket I did dry and torqued down and it leaked. Next gasket I used light silicone on gasket, let sit for 24 hrs and it's leaking. There was a decent leak when I started this and now I am beginning to wonder if maybe something above the pan is leaking.
Any ideas, suggestions, previous experience with something like this?
I can't give it back with it still leaking.

I had the same issue when I did mine I used the rubber gasket and silicone and leaked at the corners However I bought a cork gasket and put silicon around the edges. Has never leaked since then.
I also had to beat it back flat It had some uneven areas

Bolt the pan on with no gasket. You can look around the flange and find your high and low spots and work them out accordingly. Folks tend to use that thick cork gasket which is forgiving on the imperfections until they tighten the mess out of it and butcher the flatness of the pan.

Yeah I've heard of people over tightening the bolts and bending the pans out of whack.. It has to be very flat for it to seal correctly.. Like N2Deep said the cork will compensate for a lot of that..

As stated above. Sounds like the pan surface is deformed. Lay it upside down on a flat surface and use a flashlight and see if you can see light from the opposite side under the edges. Especially around the bolt holes. Then like you would do body work use a hammer and dolly to work out the high spots. Also some pans have ridges in them to help grip Into a gasket be sure and don't flatten them out if they're there.

Thanks guys. I didn't mention but I did the 2 ball peen hammer thing to all the bolt holes. Well I guess I am gone have to pull it again and see what gives. Worse case I'll try a new pan.
It's the little crap like this that gives me was aches.

I never could get oscars to. Completely stop . But slowed it down a lot. Used cork gasket and l gasket holder in a spay can. Now it's just a slight leak but not enough to even enough to show on stick after a year.

Try using Indian head and a cork gasket, I been using it for many years and won't use anything else. I'll tell you like I've told many other, now true believers, If it don't work for you I'll give you your money back for the bottle.
