I know where Hawk Pride is, what I am wondering is, is there an alternate route off the mountain other than that large hill? Reason is I am not comforable going down that hill if its raining, maybe I am a wimp but down hill with a trailer on a wet road that has a turn at the bottom doesnt sound funto me.
Thx Greg G

I dont know the route but yes there is another. Some folks take it to avoid towing up that hill.
Im sure someone on here knows it.

If your coming down 72 from Corinth direction take the road on the right beside the Texaco. If you have a gps it will re route you back to hawk pride mountain road. Ive never took that route because I like climbing the hill lol.

Going up I think I'll be ok in the rain but it's the coming down part I'm scared of.
Thx for the info. I'll look it up tonight.

We took the alternate route last year to avoid going up the big hill. It has a few hills and a few more turns.

First does your trailer have brakes? If so you wl be fine going down the hill in the rain just don't allow to much speed. If you don't have trailer brakes then pick a low gear if you have a standard tranny or put in 2 gear if auto and go down the hill at a speed of no more than 15 mph and you will be ok.
DO NOT decide to down shift half way down the hill , do not jam on the brakes going down the hill. You want to maintain a constant speed of 10 to 15 mph from the very top to the bottom. This is what us truck drivers do all the time and I pull tandem trailers down hills worse than that with turns at the bottom.
Just my two cents.

This... it's not that bad if you follow some simple steps and keep your speed down..

I tow my rig with a 1500 series Silverado with a tandem trailer with no brakes. I keep the truck in 1st gear and apply SLIGHT pressure on the brakes, intermittently, to keep my speed down. I completely understand how you feel about the hill, I was the same way but you do get used to it. If you decide to take that alternate route please post up and let us know how it was, I've thought about taking it just never have.

I towed to SMORR with no trailer brakes. Not ideal but it worked.
Just be smart and you'll be fine.

I've taken the alternate route before following someone with a trailer. It isn't bad but is a little longer.

OK truth be told, I don't have trailer brakes yet, I know don't even say it, that's why I'm looking for another way off the mountain IF it rains.
Like always I'll play it by ear and if it rains I'll go first so everyone can video me.

Man just hit the jake brake brake and let it rip to the bottom. Watch I'll be the one turned over down there for that smart remark. And jack rabbit if we do wreck it's all rays fault.

First time I towed to HP I put my truck, auto, in 1st hear and let it coast down. I guess I'll try the second gear and constant speed thing if it does happen to be raining. Just hope there isn't a bus load if nuns and orphans around if something goes wrong.
Anywho I am almost about to load up and get ready to roll out in the morn.
