Most of you know I have a forklift repair shop. I'm thinking about putting a laptop in my truck to look up parts and email and do invoicing. Is the reception like a cell phone, better or worse? I'm going to need an inverter for the laptop and also a small printer. Need some input in good and bad setups? What you use and why and how you like it.
Thanks for all input. Tim

Tim AT&T has 4GLTE in Memphis now... Melissa has it on her phone and it's quick!!! The air card that they give you runs off the same thing the phone does.. so the service should be the same as far as speed...

My work computer has a Verizon air card in it. It seems to work well. Before we got those I would just use the mobile hot spot on my cell phone. It was about the same.

Are you going to leave the printer in your ride. How technical are you? I think every time you turn off the access point and reconnect the devices are going to receive a new IP address unless you set them up as static. It is possible if you set it up right. I would just use your phone as a hotspot instead of an aircard. Depending on the phone you have you can probably do this without paying a monthly fee to your service provider.

I have an AT&T air card on a Mac Book Pro. I love it. Works well and and when I can I can use the hot spots. The battery on the Mac Book allows for around 8 hrs of use before a charge. I have the 13". Printer I used to use an HP scanner printer in my truck. I folded down the small portion of the back seat and just left it sitting back there.

What kind of inverter did you use? I have an iPhone, how do you make it a Hotspot? Didn't want to get into anything that required a contract untill I see if it will benefit me over just waiting till I get back to my shop.

Just a cheap inverter from Costco. Don't remember what the power was, but wasn't a real big one.
As the the iPhone, hotspot thing, that is a question above my pay grade!

There is a setting in your phone that turns your cell phone into a wifi hot spot, but can't tell you exactly where it is, probably in the wifi settings. ??

Only works if you pay for it unless you know what you're doing ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

We have the Verizon air cards and they are terrible. They constantly drop service (on satellite?!?) and we have to keep connecting to the internet. I'd go with the AT&T before I would the Verizon.
