I have no clue what to look for as far as tubing size and all that. Suggestions?

1.75 hrew .120 wall would work good. Or 1.5" hrew if you are tighter on space. Either should be fine for the bed. If you want to spend more money, you can go 1.75" .120 wall, but will be quite a bit more expensive.
You could even build it out of black pipe and it would be fine, but the downfall there is that it is heavier.
