I have the 3" rough country lift right now. Couldn't I just get coil spacers and rear shackles to get an extra 2"? Or would that be a bad idea.

Not sure about XJ's but once you get around 4" or over and you start running into other issues.. brake lines, driveline, etc

You'll want to drop your transfer case to avoid vibration but brake lines shouldn't be an issue...at least they aren't in my world.

Just seems so cheap. Transfer case drop is cheap, so are the spacers and shackles. Would my current shocks be enough for 2 more inches?

How much you want for all of it? Looking at the $600 4.5" lift kit, the only thing it has that I don't already have on my 3" lift is taller springs, shackles, and the tcase drop.

If they're not specific for a higher lift then yeah they'll limit you offroad. And $600 sounds expensive. I found my coils for $99. You may want to shop around.

Yes they will cover 2" of lift. I also have some RC 4.5 coils I might let go of

you can make a transfer case drop from just about anything that spacers the crossmember down an inch. Of course, a slip yoke eliminator would be the ideal thing, but a 1" drop should take care of any vibration issues on the cheap. As long as you have the aftermarket track bar, you should be fine adding the extra height. ...........
