So i need to get a radio for the rig. I used a old beat up Cobra 30 channel in my old rig, worked well. But the mounting location sucked (passenger side floorboard area up against dash) and I just ran the accessory plug into the lighter. Half ass, yet it worked. So this go around, I want to do it a little different. Tucked wires, solid power source, and a location that wont bust my passengers knees to crap. Anyone have any grand ideas on mounting systems? I dont really like the idea of the over head console, but I might be persuaded with some pics. Of course I dont want it to interfere with the top going down (soft or hard). And I need to find a power source that's constant while the Jeep is on. Ideas on inexpensive but decent units? Would probably use it on highway traveling to work as well if it would get out...
GO!

That would work, and its accessible. But meh... Looks like a easy target for a walking by thief.. Man i like the idea of a secure overhead console but OMG are they proud of those units.

Man after a quick search, there are hardly any off the shelf solutions that really impress me. The TUFFY you posted might be the only one out there (center overhead) that isnt denim (lmao) or not 2500.00.... I might get to the point where i make my own...

That's where I had mine mounted and it never bothered me.. Mounted the mic on the side of the center console by the stereo..

A friend has this one in his rubicon and he really likes it. He says its not in his line of sight at all. As far as someone stealing it, I dont think someone stealing a CB is very likely. More likely to get your window broken out for the spare change in the cup holder. If he comes over sometime soon I will trace his and post a pic so you can make one on the cheap. I also posted a pic of a diagram for the rear antenna mount here a while back Greg G

I mounted mine to the roll bar with hose clamps and tucked the wires inside the roll bar padding. Just disconnect the mike when you're not using it and put it in the glovebox.
