At hawks pride my pinion seal started leaking, I made it home and didn't leak that bad for a couple of days. But now its pouring out, I wanted to wait to my locker install but I dont think I can any longer. I checked my fluid and its metallic color and quite low Im gonna try to make it to AutoZone to grab some for time being.
I called the nearby shops but if someone is willing to help then id greatly appreciate it I have no power or air tools, if I did id be doing it right now

Pinion seal is easy... takes about 30 mins to replace...
Remove the drive shaft remove the pinion nut.. Don't worry it won;t mess up the preload as long as you don't hit it with a hammer.. remove yoke pull seal replace with new seal reinstall in reverse order.. Find out what the torque is for the pinion nut and make sure you lock tight it. All that should be done with the wheels on the ground. Done
Or bring me a 6 pack of Mike's next week sometime and we'll do it here.. I'm booked till Monday

I assume yours is a low pinion since it is a TJ. Not hard at all. Where you located at teach. I might be able to help you out. Trying to figure out my weekend now.

Charlie i appreciate that I would wait if it wasnt pouring out Dabbs i live on the southaven/memphis state line Im "supposed" to go by n2deeps tomo and try it
Quick ? Ify bearings were bad, would that cause it to leak? I thought id just hear a noise if it was bearings

Usually it's the seal is bad..

If the bearing took out the seal you would defiantly know it by the noise,

It's the seal. Easy fix. I'd say the hardest part is getting the pinion nut off. If you can chock the tires that'll help as the Jeep will want to move a little when you break it loose.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help
So choke the wheels, anything else? Easy way to get seal out?
Also I've been having this issue with my trans Every morning I crank it up before I drive to work I put it in d and it seems to take awhile before fully engaging However if I go to neutral or reverse first, it wont do it Didn't know if it had to do with breather tube or being cold out

If it is low, it'll do this. Cold shouldn't have anything to do with it. What trans do you have in the Jeep (what year is your Jeep)?

Thank God you're having these problems. I thought this was gonna be another front driveshaft issue.
And yes, check your tranny fluid because that sounds like what the problem is. Like everyone is saying on the pinion seal, it's a piece of cake man and won't take long at all.
