I'll be in to help, as long as u set a date in plenty of advance notice. The valve cover and oil pan gaskets will be a breeze...the rear main, I dunno. Are you absolutely sure that the rear main IS leaking? Those are often misdiagnosed, because of their location.

If you get a place and date set that's not on the weekend this month, I will do my best to come help out.

I don;t mind helping either... here's the problem.. 1. I have never even seen a rear main seal let alone changed one.. 2. Run this wknd.. Founders meeting next and on call, wknd after is club meeting, wknd after that is HP run. If you wanna tackle it on a week day my garage is always open as long as I'm not on call that day.. (it alternates) We can tackle whatever you wanna try.. just can;t guarantee that it will be done in one night... Thanks, I might take you up on that! I've been watching videos on the RMS: and I don't know if his tip on using dish soap to ease RMS installation is a good idea or not. The RMS on our engines is 2 piece and is easier to change in so much as the engine and transmission do not need to be separated. I've never changed a gasket and am not 100% sure what I'm doing. I got the good felpro gasket for the valve cover, and I think a felpro for the oil pan as well.

I'm not 100% sure, but did have it looked at by a few people who said as long as I'm pulling the oil pan (which is leaking also) then I really should replace the RMS at the same time.

I'm in the same boat as Charlie. I would be happy to help, but I've got so much to accomplish on mine to get it ready for the trails in 2 weeks. My weekends after that are almost all booked. Rear main seal on an xj is easy, just time consuming and oily/nasty. It's a 2 piece seal, so no pulling trans or engine. you just have to take out the million bolts holding the oil pan, drop the lower half of the oil pump with the pan and move it out of the way. Take off the back bearing cap (on the crank at the rear of the engine). Use a punch and push old top half of the seal out of the block (the lower half will come out with the cap). Basically takes about 45 min more than just replacing the oil pan gasket. I think it took a few hours or so to do on the few I have changed. The hardest part is wiggling the oil pan back between the axle and engine while keeping the pan gasket in place. They make a cork gasket and a rubber gasket for the pan. Get the rubber one! I'm still trying to find time to replace the rear main seal in MJLs xj.

I'm trying to get things coordinated during one of the busiest times for folks like us so I understand about availability.
