I'm gonna put my 2 cents worth in here. Me and my 3 buddies all have the little $40 compact Cobra CB and have had good luck with them. They serve our purpose, trail communication, just fine. I am not really sure how they do in the highway but the way most people caravan to a ride I'm sure they will do pretty good.

My friend Phil, 06 Rubicon, has his mounted on a bracket that puts it just to the left of the instrument cluster Bove the dash. He says it doesn't interfere with his forward vision. It looks nice and neat.

If I can find a pic of his I'll post it up.
