Good, bad, doesn't make a damn difference? I read a thread on jeepforum.com that said not good blah blah blah. It didn't really make sense to me or anyone that I have spoken to about this. I'm not necessarily looking for more mpg, it would be nice but I know it's a Jeep. I really just want it to run better and breath a little easier. So tell me your opinion of putting a cold air intake on a jeep.

So tell me your opinion of putting a cold air intake on a jeep. From what I've seen... the 4.0 intake sucks.. and not in the good way.. One of the first things I did was cut my tube off, remove the box and stick on a round air filter.. Ran it this way for years with no issues.. Did it save gas or give me more horses?? Beats me.. But I know it had to be better than what it was doing..

Only downside is once the airbox is gone you exponentially increase the risk of water entering the engine. Our little 4.0 isn't gonna notice much difference. Heck with my snorkel sucking fresh cool air from outside the engine bay doesn't make any noticeable difference. Only "cold air" system on a TJ I've seen that actually gets cold air is the one that Rescue Russell has. It removes everything md ae new piping and a sealed filter that cuts into the cowl on the hood by the windshield. Good luck!

My filter is up in the cowl area. I didn't really notice anything performance wise or gas mileage wise. It did clear up a lot of space under the hood though.

I noticed a pretty significant increase of power and gas mileage when I installed mine on Rusty. BUT, I also did my exhaust at the same time. That's what I've done on all my vehicles. I do intake/exhaust upgrade at the same time because, if you're gonna get better airflow into the engine, it only makes sense to get that used air out just as fast. If someone was to do an intake only, the difference it makes will not be all that noticeable.
And no, I've never gotten any water or dirt into my throttle body. Last time I cleaned it was right after (same day) I installed the cold air intake. After around 20k miles, when I checked it almost a week ago, it didn't even need cleaning.
My intake is a K&N that I got off eBay for around $120, and my exhaust is a Banks cat back system, but I have no cat. It musta fallen off. Haha.

Also, I've never had an issue with water gettin in there, well, because I haven't made any water crossings any deeper that just below my doors.
