ok so I was driving home today and all of the sudden I had a drastic loss of power went from 65 down to 45 and it sounded like it was choking up. I have a check engine light for and 02 sensor but I wouldn't think that would make it lose power like that Im thinking maybe my cat is clogged up. Has anyone had or know anyone who has had this problem and what they did to fix it. If its the cat im not paying an arm and a leg but I don't think I can just cut it off and just put pipe back in because I think it has to have the back pressure. But if I can get an exhaust system for what I can get a cat for then ill just do that and replace the whole system. Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome this is my daily so I got to get it back up and going.

After you lost your power does it act like it wants to choke at lower rpms like maybe its misfiring too even if there wasn't a code for a misfire.

When my cat went out a while ago it caused the CEL to flash and it would barely stay running at idle.

shouldn't be a misfire I did a tune up about 1000 miles back and replaced plugs and coil rail when I did the oil change and yes on occasion it seems like it wants to choke out at lower rpms

I had a similar problem with my 03 TJ but it ended up being the coil rail, another problem could be the camshaft position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor. I would to a temp check on a known good cat(someone you know or one of us) and check yours against it to see if there is a noticeable temp difference because any of these problems are expensive$$$. So eliminate whatever you can first.

Just to close this post did some pilfering and it turns out my two catalytic converters had given out and stopped up my resonator. so simple and cheap solution punch it out. Since then I haven't had any problems big power difference in the good way. Just have to live with that pesky check engine light but I'd rather deal with that then spend 800$ on the cats and anew resonator
