Whines when it's cold... Always done it, it's getting to the point I need to do something about it.
What it has inside: -Lee Enterprises 808 steering gear box with ports for hydraulic ram -Vanco Hydroboost hydraulic operated power brake booster -Howe Performance high volume and pressure pump, with remote reservoir
I'm guessing the Howe Performance high volume and pressure pump is the culprit...

Usually a whine points to the pump. Either low fluid, bad pressure, or it could be possible you need a flush and fill. Hydraulic fluid does go bad.

That defiantly sounds like a bad pump. Have you ever ran it low of fluid? Unless there is a restriction in the line from the resivoir to the pump that's is starving the pump of fluid then I'd say its on its way out.

It's never run low of fluid that I known of, but who knows the truth... Its quiet once it warms up. But she'll wake the neighbors early in the morning when I go to work. Sounds like a vortec belt blower on a rampage! I'll look it over for a part number and see about ordering another.

If it goes away after warm up, then it sounds like a restriction. Cold fluid is thick hence as it warms up it gets thinner and flows more easily. Look for a kinked line on the suction side or if it's low pressure parts store hose check to see if its seperated on the inside causing it to collapse or suck together. Or like Grizz said flush and refill with a quality P/S fluid and see then.

Also, you can purchase cold climate fluid for this. Used to use it a lot at the GM dealer.
