Picked this up this week, '84 w/117K, 22R, 5 speed, factory air but needs an evap core, 115" WB, 36" Iroks on beadlocks, 5.29's, came with an uninstalled lockrite for the front, supposedly has chromos and a Detroit in the rear, drove it home 489 miles running 65-70 per gps, speedo damn near spot on anyway, got 20 mpg. Going to yank my dual case skid and sliders off the '87. Really need to do hydro assist before hitting the trail and install the lockrite. Add a second case with 4.7's, put a dual fuel set-up on it and I can run some nasties...can't wait! This is supposed to be legit but who knows

I almost bought one exactly like that brand new off the lot back in '84. The only reason I didn't was because the plant I was working in closed and I got laid off. I like it !!

If the 117000 miles is legit you should look into doing a full timing chain replacement. Most 22r motors are good for about 100,000 to 120,000 miles before it stretches and destroys the guides. When that happens you wind up with plastic in the oil pan.
It can be done without removing the head but the ones I've done that way always leaked so now I always remove the head.

Already replaced the chain, guides and cover. Didn't pull the head and have no leaks. P.O. must have let it go too long because the cover had been eaten thru and welded but it leaked pretty bad so I just threw a new cover on.

Greg G it's the plastic guides that's the problem not necessarily the chain. Go back with steel guides and you'll never have that problem again. And plastic in the oil is the least of the problem, after the guide is gone the chain rubs a water jacket in the cover, once it wears thru you have WATER in your oil..... That's when the real problems begin.
