I've been researching this for a little bit and going to do it on Oscar this fall. I'm going to keep my a/c and add a compressor somewhere. Has anyone done this? If so any pointers? Got to go to pull a part and find a compressor will be my first thing to do but going to wait for this hellish temps to drop.

I've heard of this but never researched it tho.. I'm sure there's plenty of writeups online for it.. Make sure you take pics I'm curious how it turns out..

It's capable of making over 400 psi, but it is designed to be a sealed system. The oil that lubricates it is in the freon. An air compressor compresses outside air and discharges it. I don't know how you would keep an ac compressor lubed. If you find an answer for that then good luck. On a side note, some of the old eighteen wheelers used an ac compressor that actually had oil in the compressor and a dipstick to check it. They even had threaded fittings for the lines. Worst part there would be needing to run a v-belt.

It doable for sure. I just never looked into. I'm sure it's something you can figure out.

Parts that can be bought at Harbor Freight. The hardest part will be finding a place to mount and adding a pulley to engine to run compressor. There are several arrivals online. Just got to cool off some for me to dive into it..

And will tell how I do it. From what I have read it will be 100% duty and will run any air tool better than a small home compressor .

The old style Ford York compressors were self contained with oil in the crankcase just like and engine. Most used a four bolt pattern for a mount. V-belt driven and easily plumbed. There is a write up somewhere that tells the difference between the Yorks as far as volume. Some have more Output that others. If I can find it ill post it.
edit:
The one you want is a York 210. It has the most displacement therefore more volume. Look for the tag that says York not Motorcraft! A 206 or a 209 will work, its just a 210 will be faster and have more pressure. I'm sill looking for the article.

Several years ago a friend gave me an air compressor thar used an old A/C compressor for a pump so yes I know it is doable. I wish it was still around but I gave it away as well. It worked good and it seems like I remember it did have the Ford Compressor. good luck with it.

I'd love to have OBA...but I like my AC too much to get rid of it.

I think unless u buy used its just as cheap to buy something like ARB and u can still use it even if something happens to the motor and yes something can happen to the battery but its easy enough to swap batteries but I would still like to see it when its done.

I got a Sanden style A/C compressor on mine, I'm extremely impressed with how well it works. It reseated Cary and Charlie's tire back on the rim after they came off the rim. I re-air up my tires after a ride with it, used it for impact wrench, and for my air lockers. Not a necessity, but I'd say its one of the handiest tools I've got.

I'd love to have OBA...but I like my AC too much to get rid of it. I'm keeping my stock ac and adding it on side. Pics coming soon. Finding an alt pulley that has both serpentine and v notch for the set up has been my issue.
