So, who knows about ATV winches? I'm shopping around for one for my RZR and I can't decide exactly what I need with the size and weight of it...it weighs in dry at 1255 pounds...add fluids, cooler, and 4 people and it gets on up there. I got it stuck last bad last time I took it out riding in a bottomless lake bed and it took 3 atv's to pull me out. broke 2 of the winches (not sure what they were...burnt out 1 selonoid and broke a cable on the other) and had the 3rd one pull me out using the other 2 as an anchor with a snatch block and a Warn 3000 pound winch. It was slow but came right out. Here are the 4 I have it narrowed down to...
Warn Vantage 3000-S - $359
Superwinch Terra 35 - $249
Viper Max 4500 - $314
KFI 4500 - $378
All of these have synthetic rope on them. I had a KFI on a sportsman and LOVED it but I want to make sure I make the right decision for this big ole bus.
Warn: I was leaning towards a 4500 pound winch but when I got burried up to my frame in the NASTY lake bottom mud and the Warn 3000 pulled me right out it showed me that it's got enough to do the job. Still has me worried with a 3k winch on something this large....it is a Warn though.
Superwinch: Warn and Superwinch are the 2 big names everyone trusts...I've also seen the Terra 35 thrown around on the rzr forums with lots of positives so as long as 3500 pounds is enough this should be a good winch.
Viper: Customer support out of this world from what I read on rzrforum. I know the 4500 would be enough but I have zero experience with this brand and that makes me nervous.
KFI: I had one on my sportsman and had NO issues with it. Pulled me and everyone else out with no problems and never had a hiccup.
I am really leaning towards the Superwinch if it's as good as everyone says because of the price. I could get a winch mount and accessory kit with snatch block and shackles for not much more than the price of one of the other winches and winch plate.
