I need some advice. I am Jeep less at the moment. I have a love for the old CJ jeeps from all the way back to my childhood. I have found two that I really like and need some advice from my fellow off road enthusiast
on which one I should buy, or neither. I am going to list the specs of both.
1 1983 CJ 7 Stock in excellent shape, 5 speed, dana 300 transfer, stock gears and axles, 2" body lift, new top doos rain cover:
2 1983 CJ 7 5 speed, 4" RC lift, one piece axle rear with 4.10 with detroit locker, Dana 30 with 4:10, new painless wiring. the bad: Tub is beat up, Bad oil leak, no top or doors.
#2 is $1000 cheaper.
What to you guys think?

#1- It hasn't been molested. That is rare in a CJ

I say it depends on what you plan to do with it, if you want a nice daily driver #1 would be my choice ... if your going to do heavy off roading #2 sounds like it would be the prime candidate

This is not going to be daily driver, just a weekend toy. I would like to take it on runs.

I'm not a CJ kinda guy... Depending on price I would look for a YJ or TJ myself.. The YJ is a CJ just updated..

I sorta agree with Somebody, I would try to get coil springs, they work better on the trails. That means upgrading to a TJ.

Here are pics of the two jeeps. I see your dilemma. I like both of them. But, if I was going mostly trail, #2 would be my pick (and I'm going with that one being the first picture).

id go numero uno. 2nd picture shown. No oil leak and from pics it looks like it was well maintained. Pick the locker and gears u want or even swap the axle and do the lift u want. This way u know its all right instead of fixing some bs.

I'd go with option #1. It's a stocker that you can do what you want with and have no question as to the reliability on the trails. And, you don't NEED to upgrade to coils. My leaf spring YJ flexes like crazy and goes anywhere a comparably built TJ will go.

Get the stock one and do the upgrades you want to do! That's a nice looking CJ!
