Thought I'd show what I've been working on the last few months. My wife and I sold our house last year with hopes of building one of our own on our own land. Her dad owns a farm down the road and gave us some acerage on one side of it. So here's where the fun begins. We're building a small shop building and inside it we will be building an apartment. After we do more land work and build the house then I'll already have a two bay shop for projects. Picked out a pretty lever spot. And squared up a foundation. Had a footing dug and concrete poured. Blocks laid. Filled with sand and plumbing roughed in. Plastic down. Concrete going in!

And that brings up about to where I'm at now. Building walls for the apartment. I've gotten a few more up since this was taken but I just recently had the power ran and hooked up so I have lights now. We were hoping to be a little further along by now but with the truck being stolen it took the wind out of me. But we're back at it and making progress. I get some more work done I'll post up more pictures. Enjoy.

That's what I'd love to do. I have talked to people that have done this and they all say to add some sort of dust barrier like plastic in the living area ceiling and walls. The ones that didn't complained about lots of dust getting in.

Thanks guys.
Yeah I think dust is just a part of it. We plan on using more insulation around the rooms to make it as effecient as possible. The return of the heat pump will help with filtering the air and maybe get rid of a lot of the dust as well.

It's just going to be my home hobby shop. It's not replacing my business building. Once we build the house in the next year or so it'll just be for my on maintenance and projects.
The building itself is a 60x40 all steel pre-fab building. On a 4-5 in slab. The right side 20' section of it will have the LR, kitchen and bath/utility room. The center 20' section will have two bedrooms and a hallway. Those will be taken out when we move into the house. The LR and kitchen part will stay permantly as a game room / man cave, hangout area. My son will be 12 next month and as he gets to be a teenager we hope this will be a place for he and his friends to be instead of out somewhere in trouble.

Little update after the storms last night. We are extremely lucky! Trees down everywhere but no damage to my shop other than one screen about half off the side window. Lots of debris and limbs all over the yard. Leaves stuck to the side wall where the wind blew so hard. I've gods lots of cleaning up to do but I'm still structurally sound. Here's a couple pics to show how close I came. Lots of trees blown down, but just as many twisted and snapped off half way up.

Little progress report. Most of the apartment is framed. Finishing up things like closet space and hallway openings and doors and windows. Started boring holes thru studs for electrical and mounting outlet boxes. HVAC guy is supposed to come this week or next. One I get my final electrical inspection I'll start up with the wall coverings and paint. Projected move in is end of April. Pics Here's a shot from the last Bay Area. That's the two B/R and hall opening for a door.
