Today, I mounted the winch, battery, replaced some broken lights, and converted the plug to a 7 pin plug. I plan to add trailer brakes in the future... Question, which wire from the 7 pin plug do I need to hook to the winch battery? There's a "battery(black)" wire and "accessory(yellow) wire... I'm assuming I need to hook up the battery wire. I'm guessing g the accessory wire is only good for stuff that I want to run off the truck battery... Some lights I picked up.

Use the black wire.. It's 12V from the battery.. It'll charge your trailer battery while the engine is running.. Just make sure your trailer Batt is grounded to your trailer. Also... Incandescent and not LED??

I always use the center pin for reverse lights.

Incandescent and not LED?? Your color chart is different than the 7 flat pin I'm using. But I get what your saying, plus I do need to ground the battery to the trailer, and I was wanting to charge the battery while driving.. Yeah, on the lights, it was $70/each vs $10/each issue. Yeah, I should have shopped around and found some cheaper LED's. www.etrailer.com/p-H20046.html

Got the box and new jack mounted. The old jack was in the way of the tail gate and made it hard to hook up to the four wheeler. I think I'm going to shift the box back a couple inches so it'll miss the truck on sharp turns. I found a used brake controller, I need to wire that up. Also need to wire the new lights up... Next up, I need to pick up some electric brakes for the trailer. I suppose I need to buy two brake assemblies(left and right) for the 3500' axles and drums/hubs for 5x5" bolt pattern... I was looking, the back axle has about a 2" larger arch than the front. Looks like it's causing my tire to wear on the outside a bit. Anything I need to do to fix that or do I just need to buy another axle? After all this, I'm going to feel the need to paint this thing...

Just an update, finally finished installing the brakes and wiring everything. I wasn't getting battery power to the back plug. Apparently, the fuse box was missing one of these dudes. Why do they have to use a damn $5 fuse? What's wrong with a $.25 fuse?
Brakes costed a little more than I was thinking, but it's definitely a nice investment. I hauled dads Z71 home and she stops like a champ. No more planning two football fields ahead, worrying about ass hats pulling in front of me or my brakes overheating.
Couldn't find the old brake controller that was layinging around. New one was about $80. I'm sure the old one will turn up quickly now.
I purchased "never adjust" Dexter brake assembly and 5 on 5 Dexter brake hubs. The never adjust were about $25 each higher, but I thought I'd try them. Total was $225 to my door. Old hubs
New Brake hubs
Brake assembly
Bearings packed and the hub is installed.
Wired the hot lead directly to my trailer battery "blue top" off old Green. Wired my reverse light to my trailer lights through a relay that's powered off my trailer battery. Probably not necessary, but it'll be easier to hook to a switch later.
I'm really dig'n the tool box. Room for straps, four-way, tools, cooler, etc... I have a feeling the winch will come in handy. The lights will be nice when backing or loading at night.
This is what happens when you loan out your trailer. I had to get a sledge hammer to knock the beam out straight. People have knocked out both tail lights over the years and never bothered to tell me. What are buddy's for huh?
Practiced hammering and dollying on the fenders. Amazing how well that works. Did about 4 areas, it's actually a lot easier than replacing the fenders(not to mention cheaper)... Had to cut out some goose shit welds where the inner fender panel was rubbing the tire(I think it caused my last blow out) and re-weld it back in.

I'm picky now days about who borrows my trailer because it always comes back with either a busted light, the jack bent or a leaking tire.

I had a 14' trailer given to me because i fixed so much stuff on it every time I borrowed it that the owner said I had more money in it than he did and told me to just keep it
