I was hoping you'd do the nutter bypass. But hate it's down. Have you checked the valve springs for a collapsed or broken spring on that cylinder? Yeah, wish I had done it day 1. Yeah, I was hoping for a broke spring, or anything else to keep from having to pull that 75# head.

You should do the GM HEI dist. Get one from P A P out of an early 80's GM truck with I6. It's the same length and shaft. Only difference is the cam drive gear. Swap the gears from your Jeep dist. to the GM and install. That's what's in mine. One wire to ign. and the tach wire. Very simple and easy. The coil is in the cap so nothing external to have to deal with.
Also look into the Motorcraft carb swap. Mine runs better now than it ever has.

I've installed them in fords and are very easy to hook up, but I think I have decided to go with the Team Rush mod instead. We already have the aftermarket coil on it, so same benefits and I won't have to mess with the advance springs to get it just right. It has a new Webber carb on it now.

Never heard of the Team Rush thing. I'll look into it. Also didn't realize it has the weber carb. I'm interested to see how you like the cam. I almost went with something similar but didn't at the last minuet.

Just an update in this....got the cam, new lifters and new chain in. took longer than expected putting it together. After putting the balencer back on, I then noticed the timing cover was cracked, so had to pull the balencer again. The 4.0 one we had here matched up. We did have to grind down a raised part on the outside for the alternator mount to fit right. The 4.0 takes the 1 piece oil pan gasket, and this 4.2 has the 4 piece, with the bottom of the timing cover being a separate gasket. I used the 4.2 rubber gasket on the 4.0 timing cover and had to cut some alignment tits off of it, because the 4.2 cover did not have the holes for them. anyways, it worked but have a little leak, so I'll end up pulling the oil pan and installing a 1 piece gasket to fix that. I had the timing 180 out, so that took me a while to figure out, because at the same time, the new fuel pump quit pumping right. would pump enough to splash in your face at the pump, but would pump gas up an uphill fuel line.

After breaking the cam in with proper additives, and the changing the oil, it was time for a test drive. The 252 cam really wakes the 4.2 up. more power throughout the rpm range. I've even caught myself using 4th gear more in town, a gear we seldom use in town with 35" tires with 3.07 gears. Still have some adjusting to do to the weber to get it right with the new cam, I'll get out there with the vacuum gauge this weekend. It added a nice little lope to the idle also.
