I have a 2002 Chevy z-71. It is having a starting issue that I'm positive is electrical because it intermittent. Turn the key to start it and there is power to everything but it won't turn over, turn it off and try again nothing, do this several times and eventually it will turn over and start. this sounds to me like an ignition switch which in my old stuff was bolted to the top of the column, My problem is i know nothing about these newer electrical systems and no clue what it what in the columns now or how hard they are to repair

sounds like a bad key, if the security light is coming on that usually means that vats system is shutting you out. do you have a different key to try.

In Chrysler products it's called a ignition mobilizer or win module "wireless ignition node module" if it isn't communication with the chip in either of the keys .it's designed to shut down. And very well could be a bad ignition switch. Down side, if it is the imobilizer module , more than likely it'll have to be done at the dealership. For the fact the keys and module have to be relearned.. ?

Doesn't sound like a Key to me. I have an '02 Suburban and only got one key with it. Went to Walmart and had one made and it's worked with it ever since. That was in '04. It's just a plain old key, no chip.
On some models the start signal comes thru the ECM. Do you ever get a CEL?

Also, check the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood. Might be that simple.

No CEL and checked tonight for any codes that might not have turned on the light and no codes at all. We had the truck rekeyed a few months back because his keys got stolen and we got 3 new keys but it was doing it before that but it was maybe once every few months, then the last few days it been starting after three or ten tries or maybe after 30 to 40 minutes of trying and now it hasn't started since he got off work yesterday
