Im getting around to doing an sye upgrade in my tj. Which kit is better than the others? Is it better to get it all or is the hack n tap an reasonable option?

With the hack and tap you run the risk of not drilling straight unless you pull the case to make sure. The other purpose of the SYE is to get a longer drive shaft to get rid of the bad angle of the short stock shaft after a lift.

I believe I was thinking of the wrong thing I was going to get an sye from rc but get a front ds from a Cherokee and have it cut.

You can do the front XJ driveshaft, that's what I did in the Thug. But you may want to spend the 300.00 (or whatever they cost) on a Tom Woods or wherever seein how it'll have a warranty and all that. Pretty sure they have a kick ass warranty, I'm sure someone else can chime in on that. As far as the SYE kits, I got mine from Tom's 4x4 off ebay. I think they're all about the same kit and all cost roughly the same no matter where you get them from.

If you can get it with the ds for that price then do it. You'll pay more to have the XJ ds shortened and balanced and all that. That's a good price from RC.

That's a great price from R C. My buddy paid right at $500 for a SYE and driveshaft. He bought it at the same time as he bought his lift and body lift.
It's not a super hard install. Getting the transfer case out was harder that the SYE install.

Bc if you don't have a lift it's easier to work with it on a work table

I have a lift but never having done one before I felt more comfortable having it on the bench. Also with it flat, once I cleaned the case mating surfaces there was no chance of oil contaminating the sealant.
Once we got it back together I let it sit for a couple hours so the RTV could start setting up undisturbed.
When I do something for the first time I am kinda OCD about it. I wanted to make sure it was perfect. I wasn't trying to make flat rate time so I just did it that way.

Ahhh ok My only downfall is that I have to install it, then call rough country and theyll send out a driveshaft
