Heat and freezer works well. That's how we install engine sleeves in Diesels and ring gears on manual flywheels.

No freezer at the shop and I guess if I had to, I could use my beer cooler...

Just thought I'd wrap this thread up by saying the HF press made the bearing and stud install a snap... The machine shop did a quick job of boring the retainer nut access hole. I guess I could have cut it out with the plasma, but something about cutting it with a plasma just wouldn't feel right. ![](//storage.proboards.com/3613987/images/fbM4lbqniWZWa__3RtlD.gif) ![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a411/shadrock79/Cash%20Money/null_zpsfec0dafe.jpg)

Throw those plates away before they explode and you wind up in the emergency room getting stitches. ![](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff310/atver300/2012-08-31_21-35-01_163.jpg)

I've been cutting my own out of 1" plate. Much cheaper than swags. But after having one explode on me it was worth it.

Yes cast, all the harbor freight ones are, not sure about any others. That one was busted on a 12 ton press. 8 stitches and a broken finger. The steel for me to cut a set of those plates cost almost as much as a HF press.
